Let's Be Free
On love surviving longer than the relationship
Some relationships don’t end because the love disappears. Sometimes the love is still completely there. What disappears is the ability to stop hurting each other.
I think “Let’s Be Free” lives inside that space.
Two people who genuinely care about each other, but who keep getting pulled back into the same patterns, reactions, fears, and emotional habits over and over again.
“Broken souls
Troubled minds
We’re looking for
Alibis”
That’s probably the entire song in four lines. Not villains or bad people, just two human beings trying to explain their pain to themselves while slowly watching the relationship collapse under the weight of it.
And one of the strange things about relationships like that is that the highs can feel incredibly high.
“You and I
Got so high”
Because when things are good, it feels like maybe this time everything has finally broken open.
Maybe this time the past is gone.
Maybe this time the two of you can actually become free from all the things you keep dragging into the relationship.
That’s what the chorus is really reaching toward for me. Not freedom from each other, but from the patterns, and from the versions of ourselves that keep recreating the same suffering.
Broken souls
Troubled minds (my baby)
We’re looking for
Alibis (my baby)
Through the sky
You flew so fast (my baby)
Just to find
We won’t last at all
Mmmm
Don’t wanna say
Goodbye
You know I really want you girl
Can’t you see?
Baby baby
Come to me
There’s never been a better time
Wouldn’t you agree?
Baby baby
Let’s be free
Once I was
Blind to see (my baby)
Now it’s you
That’s over me (my baby)
You and I
Got so high (my baby)
Then we had
To say goodbye, to our love
Mmmm
Don’t wanna say
Goodbye
You know I really love you girl
Don’t give up on me
Baby baby
Can’t you see
There’ll never be a better time
Wouldn’t you agree?
Baby baby
Let’s be free
Come with me
Into that place inside
There you’ll find us
Two of a kind
And then
You and me
Can be who we are
You will see
And then
You and me
Can be who we are
All this time
You and me
We had planned
Carefully
The past is gone
It cannot be
We have now
To be free
You know I really need you girl
Don’t give up on me
Baby baby
Can’t you see
There’ll never be a better time
Here for you and me
Baby baby
Let’s be free
“Come with me
Into that place inside
There you’ll find us
Two of a kind”
Like underneath all the confusion and damage there’s still this belief that maybe two people can meet each other honestly if they stop defending their identities long enough.
Which feels very Fabricated Worlds.
Because a lot of the album is really about the stories and identities we become trapped inside of.
And how difficult it can be to simply be who we are without fear, performance, protection, memory, or projection getting involved.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Kevin! I love how you crafted these simple words to express complex feelings. 🤘🏼
Enjoyed how you broke down the lyrics with your reflections. Looking forward to the album!
