We Were Only Dreaming
On what feels real
Some experiences don’t feel uncertain when you’re in them.
They feel complete, clear, certain, and inevitable.
You’re not questioning anything, or analyzing it. You’re just inside it.
But sometimes what you’re inside isn’t life, it’s thought.
It doesn’t feel like thinking, it feels like seeing.
Everything looks clear, everything makes sense.
But you’re not actually experiencing what’s happening, you’re experiencing your thoughts about it.
“Never stop believing
Thinking without seeing
Missing all the meaning”
That’s the state. Moving forward, certain, without realizing you’re one step removed from everything.
“We Were Only Dreaming” isn’t about something falling apart. It’s about noticing, quietly, that what felt completely real was never quite what you thought it was.
And the strange part is, that realization doesn’t come with drama. No collapse. No moment of impact. Just a shift.
Wailing
Hidden waiting deep inside
Burning longing childish pride
Torment pleasure ecstasy
Spinning slowly round us
Never stop believing
Thinking without seeing
Missing all the meaning
We were only dreaming
Wailing
Speaking clearly from the heart
Hoping that we fall apart
Joyful sadness pleasure pain
Laying bare before us
Never stop believing
Thinking without seeing
Missing all the meaning
We were only dreaming
Wailing
It’s part of Fabricated Worlds, which is really just that: things that feel completely real while you’re inside of them.

This one is so good, Kevin!! I love this concept of believing we are in it but in the thought instead of life.
Hey Kevin
I like this thoughtscape but it brings out in me a memory — a state of dissociation yet being part of something but not fully engaged. The thoughts were fluid but someone else was behind the wheel.
But you’re not actually experiencing what’s happening, you’re experiencing your thoughts about it.
